Star Daughter by Shveta Thakrar // Night Markets, Star Courts and Desi goodness

GOODREADS // AMAZON // BOOK DEPOSITORY The daughter of a star and a mortal, Sheetal is used to keeping secrets. Pretending to be "normal." But when an accidental flare of her starfire puts her human father in the hospital, Sheetal needs a full star's help to heal him. A star like her mother, who returned to the sky long ago. Sheetal's quest to save her father will take her to a celestial court of shining wonders and dark shadows, where she must take the stage as her family's champion in a competition to decide the next ruling house of the heavens--and win, or risk never returning to Earth at all. This gorgeously imagined YA debut blends shades of Neil Gaiman's Stardust and a breathtaking landscape of Hindu mythology into a radiant contemporary fantasy.   ( A huge thank you to the  HOV Tours  and HarperTeen for the eARC and the opportunity to be a part of this blog tour.  ~When a book sees you~      Yes I am absolutely going to s

Adios 2016 ! Hola 2017 !

Hola Amigos! So it's finally going to be 2017! I love ends AND beginnings. I love looking back and fangirling/getting angry/ swooning over books. (In case you were wondering, yes 90% of my year was books. And no I don't really remember the remaining 10% and yes I am a nerd and no, I'm not ashamed of it)  Now that we've cleared that up, let's look at my glorious year in books !
FAVORITE READS

It is the most difficult question in the Universe (and all alternate and parallel universes) to ask book lovers but since I'm a daring and valiant Gryffindor (Pottermore agrees!!), I'm going to try and answer the question.

BOOKS THAT DISAPPOINTED ME

Yes unfortunately some books did manage to make me want to hurl them (or my phone or my Computer) across the room. And some others made me want to beat myself on the head with them. Some weren't so bad but just weren't for me. (Is it too much to ask for well rounded characters, healthy relationships, and a plot that actually has substance??)

* I know I gave four hearts to Harry potter and the cursed child but that's only because it was HARRY POTTER. But considering all seven HP books were infinite hearts read for me, I was EXTREMELY disappointed with Harry Potter and the Cursed child.

FAVORITE AUTHORS I DISCOVERED IN 2016

And I'm so angry with myself for not having read their books before!

            ➤Jay Kristoff                    ➤Kendare Blake             ➤Patrick Ness
            ➤Sarah J. maas                ➤ Maggie Stiefvater        ➤C.L.Rozelle

FAVORITE READS THAT WERE RECOMMENDED BY FRIENDS

I'm sending out virtual hugs to two amazing individuals who made me pick up these books!

FAVORITE SHIPS

I will go down with these ships. They may or may not actually happen in the books, but they are happening in my head. And that's what counts because Dumbledore said- Of course it's happening inside you head, Uma, but why on Earth should that mean it's not real? (Okay so he said Harry and not Uma, but it's just a small detail you nit-picky elves)

🚢 BLUE and GANSEY- Because they belong together! If you tell me they don't I will feed you to flesh eating ants. I will forever guard this pair in my heart and feel like a proud mother everytime I look at them.

🚢 CAELENA and DORIAN - Don't ask why... I'll probably tell you it's a feeling (which it is (Also Dorian is a cinnamon roll who has to be protected at all costs. )

🚢 ALBUS and SCORPIUS - You can't deny that they would make the most adorable pair ever. (According to me Scorpius Malfoy was the best part about Harry Potter and the Cursed Child)

🚢 RONAN LYNCH and ADAM PARRISH - These two need to get together okay? I'm going to cry like a Banshee (Which means people will die by the way) if they don't.

FAVORITE FRIENDSHIPS

These friendships melted my heart and make me believe in unicorns and fairies and all things good and pure.

➤ THE RAVEN BOYS and BLUE (The Raven Boys) - I will forever see them all together. They complete each other in ways I can't even explain. This is the most amazing friendship I've read about this year and I probably will ever read.

➤ MIA COVERE and MR. KINDLY (Nevernight)- So what if Mr. Kindly is just a cat? (Well technically he is not a cat but who's checking?) Mia and Mr. Kindly together have so much sass and have the best of conversations!

➤ APPY, GOENKA, OLLIE and AJ (Aqson Level I) - I fell in love with this group of friends. They bicker and squabble but they look out for each other and basically had me going awww most of the time.

CHARACTERS I'D BE BEST FRIENDS WITH

Because sometimes people in real life make you wanna renounce everything and bury yourself (On second thoughts, bury them)

⏩ MIA COVERE (NEVERNIGHT) - She is an assassin. She is sassy. She has a cat who is not a cat. Also did I mention she's an assassin? Imagine how awesome it would be to have a sassy assassin with you? We'd have the best conversations and I'd ask her to quietly and efficiently kill some people off.

⏩ RONAN LYNCH (THE RAVEN BOYS) - The King of bad boys, the boy who never lies, the most loyal of all the people in the universe. Ronan Lynch is the best friend we are all looking for. (Though if I find him first, I'm not sharing. Just kidding. Not Really.)

⏩ THE FABULOUS BRITTANY WALSH (GLIMMER and GLISTEN) - She is a freaking awesome designer and she makes STYLISH BULLETPROOF VESTS for girls. We'd be BFFs. In all my lives.

FAVORITE BOOK BOYFRIENDS

Because I can't get enough of them.

❤ GANSEY (The Raven Boys) - He is the sweetest most sensible guy in books I've encountered this year. Richard Gansey III all the way!

❤ GRAEME ROCHESTER (Glimmer and Glisten) - The dotting brother and boyfriend from the series had me crushing on him from page one! As the series progressed, I couldn't help but smile like an idiot everytime I read about him.

❤ CARRICK (Flawed) - The bad boy who doesn't really talk much but had such a powerful presence. He was my favourite character in the book despite him being there for less than half the book.

❤ CAS LOWOOD (Anna Dressed in Blood) - He had me at CAS. Enough said.

WHAT'S ON TOP OF MY 2017 TBR?

All the books that my book loving friends have been telling me to read but I haven't yet got to because exploding TBRs and lack of time (I suggest we all get time turners so we can go back in time and manage our TBRs.) Also the books I'm reading for my Diverse Read-A-Thon. (Also, do check it out and I'd love it if you could join!)

2017 RELEASES I'M MOST PSYCHED FOR

There are so many amazing amazing books releasing next year. (Time turners could come in handy here too.)

So the above is my 2016 and what will hopefully, ( I CAN'T BE ALLOWED TO HOPE WHEN I HAVE A TBR THAT CAN EXPLODE AT ANY POINT. Dammit a girl can hope!) be my 2017. How has your year been? What books are you looking forward to? If you've written year end posts too, leave a link below and I'll pay you a visit.

HAPPY 2017 FELLOW BOOK MONSTERS!!

  1. I think I might be reading Illuminae next year...not my usual kind of read but for some reason I want to read this. I really didn't like Miss Peregrine but I'm going to give the film a try next year. I've got my ebooks ready for January so here's to a great reading year for both of us! Happy New Year!

  6. I'm trying to wrap up my 2016 as well and start 2017 with lots of good resolutions, as usual. Not because I'm into resolutions but because I love clean slates! It was great reading your blog in 2016! Currently browsing through book blogs, trying to figure out what weekly blog posts I could join in. I might be doing a film post once a week as well, because I go to the cinema quite often... but I'd like a few more book posts, that aren't just reviews.
Btw: I totally agree when it comes to Gansey, Ronan and the Raven Boys! Happy New Year!

    2. Top 10 Tuesday sounds like fun, the only thing that worries me is that I'll never be able to come up with ten things. 10 is intimidating. But I'll try.

    3. Oh you should check out the master post at Broke and the bookish. You need not necessarily add 10 things! A lot of posts I've seen have more or less than 10 :)

  11. Happy New Year! I agree with Rhodi's Light being a bit of a disappointment. It had a REALLY great idea, but there was just something missing that didn't click with me. And you should totally read Shadow and Bone! Alina might aggravate you, but the world of Grisha is awesome. The audio version of the third book is really good, too!

I have yet to read Cinder - it's just sitting in my room buried somewhere. 😅
