Star Daughter by Shveta Thakrar // Night Markets, Star Courts and Desi goodness

GOODREADS // AMAZON // BOOK DEPOSITORY The daughter of a star and a mortal, Sheetal is used to keeping secrets. Pretending to be "normal." But when an accidental flare of her starfire puts her human father in the hospital, Sheetal needs a full star's help to heal him. A star like her mother, who returned to the sky long ago. Sheetal's quest to save her father will take her to a celestial court of shining wonders and dark shadows, where she must take the stage as her family's champion in a competition to decide the next ruling house of the heavens--and win, or risk never returning to Earth at all. This gorgeously imagined YA debut blends shades of Neil Gaiman's Stardust and a breathtaking landscape of Hindu mythology into a radiant contemporary fantasy.   ( A huge thank you to the  HOV Tours  and HarperTeen for the eARC and the opportunity to be a part of this blog tour.  ~When a book sees you~      Yes I am absolutely going to s

Review: Ghost Summer: Stories by Tananarive Due

Ghost Summer: Stories by Tananarive Due

( I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.)

Whether weaving family life and history into dark fiction or writing speculative Afrofuturism, American Book Award winner and Essence bestselling author Tananarive Due’s work is both riveting and enlightening.

In her debut collection of short fiction, Due takes us to Gracetown, a small Florida town that has both literal and figurative ghost; into future scenarios that seem all too real; and provides empathetic portraits of those whose lives are touched by Otherness. Featuring an award-winning novella and fifteen stories—one of which has never been published before—Ghost Summer: Stories is sure to both haunt and delight.

OVERALL REVIEW OF THE BOOK

Ghost Summer:Stories is a well put together book of creepy short stories by a single author, Tananarive Due. Except for Ghost Summer, the rest are not your average 'horror' stories but rather deal with creepy and eerie settings, the callousness of humans towards other humans, helpless dystopian scenarios and the like. My personal favourites were The Lake, Ghost Summer, The Knowing, Like Daughter, patient Zero, Danger word, Removal order, and Vanishings. I'm going to rate the stories individually but not write a detailed review of each as that would just be too long.

  1. I never really read Ghost Stories because they do not scare me. Hehe, but I might give this one a shot! Great post!
